SOLAS is about the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) is an international maritime treaty which sets minimum safety standards in the construction, equipment and operation of merchant ships. The convention requires signatory flag states to ensure that ships flagged by them comply with at least these standards.

The benefit of the ratifying the SOLAS:

  • By ratifying SOLAS Timor-Leste will put its own flag on the ship and recognize by the international
  • To regulate the movement shipment in the sea
  • Once Timor-Leste join ASEAN it is the benefit for Timor-Leste by ratifying the convention itself in order to enhance the connectivity among ASEAN member countries
  • To respond to Tibar Bay Port in order to increase the movement of the export and import of the goods in the regional and international
